Beholder dnd 5e monster manual entry9/10/2023 When fighting a metal destroyer ooze the party may put the squishy members first because they may not have any metal on them or at least not a metal they desperately need. It dissolves flesh quickly but does not affect bone, metal, wood.īy their description, there are two types of oozes ordered by their ability to dissolve certain materials: the flesh hunters and the metal destroyers. The ochre jelly: it looks like a yellowish blob. It has a corrosive effect on non-magical metals. The gray ooze: a pool of a gray material it is indistinguishable from an oily pool or a wet rock. It can dissolve only flesh so after a meal, the remains of the unhappy victim make this creature visible. The gelatinous cube is a cube of transparent material that is rarely visible. The black pudding: an ooze that looks like a “mound of sticky black sludge” it dissolves flesh, wood, bone, and metal There are four types of Oozes in Monster Manual: You may ask “what is interesting about these creatures?” and the answer is simple: the effect on the players. The OozesĪs I said in da beginning: I select creatures that I find interesting, not powerful. But I will not describe their abilities so you may have a reason to look for yourself. There are more types of Beholder: one that is the best necromancer in the game, the Death Tyrant, and a less form of a Beholder known as The Spectator. Why is it more powerful than the other rays? Because it shut down quite a few classes: mage, sorcerer, warlock, druid, bard, and to a lesser extent cleric.Īnd this is not all. The beholder can change the placement of the cone by simply looking at the desired location. It has an even greater power: an antimagic cone. Each eye at the end of the tentacles have a different ray: Fortunately for the species, the new beholder can appear kilometers away. The new beholder might be born in a range of a mile. But this creature is not a lovely mother so the new beholder and the old one will fight to the death if they meet. Even their birth is unnatural: when a beholder dreams of a beholder a new beholder is born. Beholders are unnatural being with an unknown point of origin. The sphere is made up of a giant eye and a teeth-filled, mouth. ![]() A beholder is a floating sphere with ten tentacles each with an eye at the end. The Beholder is an original creature created for DnD. ![]() They can be the feral beast that charges into battles or the master of shadows puppeteering the evens for their own purposes. They have good minds and strong and robust bodies. Second, they are not simple creatures that rely on their instincts they are smart and can create opportunities for themselves. Why do I find them interesting? There are a few reasons:įirst, the whole thing with the split between the good and bad dragons feels interesting and can lead to great moments in-game. True dragons come in two forms chromatic dragons, the evil dragons named after colors: red, black, etc., or the metallic dragons, the good dragons named after metals: bronze, gold, etc. I will begin, as is right, with the monster that the whole game is named after The Dragons. ![]() Keep in mind that the list is in no particular order. I will talk only about the creature that I find surprisingly interesting. This list is not about the most powerful or the biggest or the evilest creatures. My favorite pieces of art from this book are the frog from the bottom of the page of the contents page and the flaming skull. Most of the monsters look amazing to have very few exceptions: Cloud Giant comes to mind. The art feels consistent giving it an identity and making it recognizable. I find the artwork of this book to be very good. In the next few paragraphs, I will discuss the artwork of the book and I will show a few creatures that I find interesting.
